Dr. Sebastian’s veterinary expertise was recently highlighted in the successful treatment of Wally, a 4-month-old kitten who sustained a fractured pelvis after a motor vehicle accident. During his initial care, Wally underwent a urethral repair due to urinary complications from the trauma. However, several days post-surgery, Wally developed stranguria, a condition characterized by painful, frequent urination. Upon further investigation, a stricture (a narrowing of the urethra) was found to have developed at the original repair site.

Faced with this challenge, Dr. Sebastian took an innovative approach: he opted to place a human cardiac stent at the site of the stricture. Human cardiac stents, typically used in human medicine to keep coronary arteries open, have also shown promise in veterinary medicine for situations like urethral strictures. The stent, designed to hold the urethra open and allow normal urine flow, was carefully placed in Wally’s urethra.

The procedure was a success, and Wally’s recovery was closely monitored. Eight months post-surgery, the kitten has fully recovered and is in excellent health, with no further urinary issues. This case highlights not only Dr. Sebastian’s skill but also the potential for cross-species medical advancements to improve the quality of life for veterinary patients
